Who can join the Pink Titans?

For adults who are interested in helping as a mentor, thank you for your time and interest in being an inspiration to the next generation of STEM-focused professionals! Adult volunteers are required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Screening by the Toronto Police Services. Please contact Edmund (.) Kim (.) tdsb (.) on (.) ca for a copy of the official Toronto Police Reference Check - Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) Volunteer form as soon as possible! With the VSS Volunteer application form, the Toronto Police Service requires a $20 certified cheque to the Toronto Police Service. (The cost of the $20 certified cheque, plus banking fees, will likely be covered by the school of the Pink Titans.)
The process of the Tor. Police Reference Check takes about 10 days to complete.

What events are the Pink Titans participating in?
January
- First Saturday: "Kick-Off" - Game reveal of annual season of FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). Read game rules, brainstorm strategies and idea of robot design.
- FRC season: Strategize game play; design, build, program robot at David & Mary Thomson Collegiate Institute.

- Two Ontario District Events of FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). The two events of preference are located in the Greater Toronto Area. Since 2015, the Pink Titans competed at Durham College (Oshawa), Ryerson University (downtown Toronto), and York University (uptown Toronto).
- (Pending qualification) FRC Ontario District Championship in Mississauga, Ontario.
- (Pending qualification) FIRST Championship in Houston, Texas, USA for 2023-24.
- Girls and Allies Youth Summit in King City, Ontario.
- Participation in Robots@CNE - FRC Off-Season Event at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto, Ontario.
- Attendance at 2056 Ways To Inspire - FRC Conference at Orchard Park Secondary School (hosted by FRC 2056) in Stoney Creek, Ontario
- Participation in STEMley Cup - FRC Off-Season Event at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School (hosted by FRC 4039 & 5406) in Hamilton, Ontario.
- Attendance at SWATposium - FRC Conference at St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School (hosted by FRC 771) in Oakville, Ontario.
- Host of FIRST LEGO League Practice Events at David & Mary Thomson Collegiate Institute.
- Host of FIRST LEGO League Qualifying Event at David & Mary Thomson Collegiate Institute.
- Outreach events: From Sept. to June (school months), up to four per month. From July to Aug, two to four per week. Various locations in Greater Toronto Area.

Can I earn community volunteer hours while performing duties for the Robotics team?
Based on the Community Involvement Manual (Toronto District School Board, 2011):

- The service happens outside of regular instructional time of a day. The service can happen during lunch, before school, after school, and during the student's spare period class.
- e.g. In formally-designated time, assisting coach for preparing team members for success (e.g. running practices, tutoring)
- e.g. Helping to organize an event - set-up, deliver, clean-up
- Any robotics team-related event that would have students miss instructional class time.
- Duties normally performed in the student's home (e.g. daily chores) or personal recreational activities.
- e.g. Building robot parts, progrmaming code, cleaning up the robotics spaces, organizing the tools, social media during down time.
