The STEMley Cup Championship
St. Mary Catholic Secondary School, Hamilton, Ontario
On Nov. 11, 2017, FIRST Robotics Team 5719 participated in the Third Annual STEMley Cup, an off-season event for the 2017 FRC game SteamWORKS, at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School (home of FRC 4039 - MakeShift Robotics) in Hamilton Ontario. Thirty-two teams from across Ontario, Michigan, and New York state participated.
The team received the Parabolic Power Play Award, nominated by peer teams, for "creative design, use of component, or strategy". The team was very honoured to receive this award and recognition from peers.
The team had its best results of the season. The team finished as semi-finalists with Alliance Four captain FRC 3683 - Team DAVE and FRC 1325 - Inverse Paradox. In Quarter-Finals Match 2, the team performed its best for the season by score six rotors and climbed the rope in a single match. The Alliance scored 468 points, which was a season-high for the team. Also, the alliance scored four rotors three times during the playoffs. In addition as a highlight, the alliance outscored the eventual winning Alliance One (FRC 1114 - Simbotics, FRC 2056 - OP Robotics, FRC 6135 - Arctos in Semi-Finals Match One. Furthermore, the team finished with an Offensive Power Ranking (system in attempt to deduce average point contribution of a team to an alliance) of third out of 30 teams.
